Original Antique George Walton Dog Grate Ref - DG01

£0.00

Description

Large cast iron dog grate designed by George Walton for the dining room at Alma House. It has the initials G.A.P. in the back which stand for Colonel G.A. Peake. A photo of which can be seen on page 121 of 'George Walton Designer and Architect' by Karen Moon. "Alma House, decorated throughout by Walton for Colonel G.A. Peake probably around 1904-1905, represents one of the most complete of Walton's schemes of this period, much of which has survived in the form of furniture sketch, contempory photograph or actual remains. Alma House is one of the high points of Walton's career in interior decoration and one of the last sets of rooms to use the range of skills Walton had learnt to command and combine in the company's workshops."
